Chainalysis Breach Exposes Crypto’s Compliance Layer

On November 4, Chainalysis confirmed that an ongoing cyberattack had exposed names, usernames, password hashes and live tokens for all users. The company took Reactor, Data Solutions, KYT and other screening tools offline or restricted access while it reset credentials and restored services in phases. Chainalysis said it had no evidence that investigations data was accessed or that its attribution data was manipulated.

The incident matters beyond one company because exchanges, banks, regulators and law-enforcement agencies rely on blockchain analytics for transaction screening and investigations. A breach at that layer can disrupt the compliance infrastructure that increasingly connects crypto with the traditional financial system.

Zcash Activates Its NU7 Mainnet Upgrade

On November 5, Zcash activated NU7 at block 3,543,405. The upgrade reduces the network’s target block interval from 75 seconds to 25, while adjusting block subsidies so that the issuance schedule and 21 million ZEC supply cap remain broadly unchanged.

NU7 also introduces the Network Sustainability Mechanism, which directs 60% of transaction fees into a public reserve intended to support future mining rewards. The design addresses a longer-term question shared by fixed-supply networks: how to maintain security as block subsidies decline.

U.S. Treasury Cuts MEXC Off From the Financial System

On November 6, the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network issued an order prohibiting U.S. financial institutions from processing transfers involving MEXC Global. Treasury said the exchange had facilitated at least $16 billion in transactions connected to sanctions evasion, cybercrime and other illicit activity between May 2021 and May 2026.

The order takes effect 30 days after publication in the Federal Register. It shows how access to the U.S. banking system remains one of Washington’s strongest enforcement tools, even when a crypto platform operates primarily outside the United States.
